日本寵物店門口掛著這十條建言:
"Ten heartful wishes of a dog" posted outside a Japanese pet shop:
1. My life likely to last ten to fifteen years. Any separation from you
will be painful for me. Remember that before you buy me.
1. 在你把我帶回家之前, 請記得, 我的壽命約有10~15年; 你的離棄, 會是我最大的痛苦.
2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.
2. 請給我一點時間, 讓我了解對我的要求是什麼.
3. Place your trust in me--it's crucial to my well-being.
3. 信賴我--那對我非常重要.
4. Don't be angry for me for long and don't lock me up as punishment.
You have your work, your entertainment and your friends. I have only you.

5. Talk to me sometimes. Even if I don't understand your words.
I am familiar with your voice when you are speaking to me.

6. Be aware that however you treat me. I'll never forget it

the bones of your hand, but that I choose not to bite you.

8. Before you scold me for being uncooperative, please ask yourself
if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I'm not getting the right food,
or I've not been running under the sun for too long. Or my heart is getting old and weak.

或許我沒獲得適當的食物, 或我已經很久沒在溫暖的陽光下奔跑, 又或者我的心臟已經太弱及太老.
9. Take care of me when I get old. We all will grow old.
9. 在我年老時請好好照顧我. 因為我們都會變老的.
10. Go with me on difficult journeys. Never say I can't bear to watch it or let it happen
in my absence. Everything is easy for me if you are there. Remember, I love you.
10. 當我要捱過最辛苦的歷程時, 請千萬不要說：「我不忍心看他。」
或者「讓我不在場時才發生。」只要有你和我在一起, 所有的事都會變得簡單容易接受。請你永遠不要忘記，我愛 你 （雖然我不懂說）。
