一次朋友聚會，席上有一位最近參與了有關國內振災與扶貧的工作，呼籲我們伸出同情之手，以月供的方式，捐助到國內活在赤貧中的同胞。各人面面相覷，不置可否。我立即把話題再「深入探討」，拉扯到最近一輯以余慕蓮為主角的「向世界出發」，她把自己二十多萬的退休金捐到貴州，並興建了一間「余慕蓮希望小學」。我提出中國現在是經濟強國，外匯儲備達15,300億美金(即是119,340億港幣)，我們應該反思為什麼這種境況仍然出現在已經堀起的中國呢？我的主張是提供教育的工作應由政府做起。朋友續說，由於交易費用的昂貴(即貪污)，政府所有建設開支，到最後落到民間只夠起一座軟如豆腐的校舍。此時，一碟新鮮的肥牛送上，各人都再沒有興趣聽我的偉論下去。
我不是反對扶貧(因為我自己都需要人扶)，我只是想提出當前的國家形勢大好，是否可以真正「以民為本」去照顧人民的基本需要，如教育等問題。有外國傳媒報導，今屆的北京奧運用上了420億美元。是想想，如果政府能節省0.1%的開支，即可省下4,200萬美元，相當於3.76億人仔，以「余慕蓮希望小學」的成本作基數，約25萬人仔，這0.1%足以興建1,506間「余慕蓮希望小學」﹗辦奧比自己國家的兒童接受教育更加重要？面子貴重過孩子？
希望余慕蓮於下輯問一問這個問題，如果她興建「余慕蓮希望中學」。

Lately i was getting very involved @ charity works, I also questioned myself why I would want to do more [already busy schedule] if I am already doing monthly donatinons for education fund (NGO organization) and raising orphans. I think nowasday there are just too many questions and too little solutions, and I am like your thought asking why from the government or others, but after thinking more deeply, then I understand there will not be anything accomplish if I keep thinking this way.
My solution is I think I want to change the society, then I need to start with my own attitude first - that is "doing more, saying less". In another words, "more appreciation, less comments". This is just my thought now.
