It's hard not to compare The Ting Tings with the truly revolutionary almighty one-of-a-kind Yeah Yeah Yeahs. I just can't help but pick up similarities between the two bands when TTT are so obviously copying / drawing influences from* YYY. (Just look at their names for goodness sake) It's almost like TTT are shouting "Yeah yeah yeah, we're The Ting Tings" at the back of their studio. The evidence is everywhere, from the excessive use of the bass drum, the out-of-sync extended guitar riff, the abrupt wrap-up of a song, to the repetition of pointless single-line lyrics. In the meantime Katie White desperately tries to convince people that she is indeed establishing a style of her own but not imitating Karen O.
TTT lack trashiness, genuine anger and most of all, personality. Like their album title suggested, they definitely started nothing. They're just Ctrl+Y-ing what YYY have accomplished. Kudos to NME and MTV, they just successfully manipulated albums sales and created a pseudo-hype once again.
*delete the first one if you're a TTT fan, second if you're an YYY fan.
