I have been watching English soccer since 1985, i.e. I see many English
referees who are in charge in its top league/FA Cup.
There'd be what I see all incidents in these few years. Referees lost their
respect from players.
Some
of the referees are really bad in Premier League nowadays, for example, Mike
Riley (who was incharging for Tottenham vs Chelsea) He gave many bad calls for the games and this may be
the reason players didn't respect him. For example, 1) a penalty called as
Wayne Rooney "was fouled" in penalty as Man Utd vs Arsenal
which could end the 49 consecrative unbeaten run during 04-05 season.
(Wayne Rooney should be called diving ). 2) The foul called for Ashley Cole as
he did it on last Wednesday, Mike Riley made a terrible mistake, 1st he should
send off Ashley Cole for that incident, 2nd if Ashley didn't "talk"
to him after that foul, he should be given a 2nd yellow card for dissent. 3)
remember 回歸盃 last year, when Bayern Munich vs San Paulo. During in 2nd half, there'd
be an attacker for Bayern Munich, was 1-on-1 situation when he was facing San
Paulo's goal keeper. The last defender of San Paulo, who did sliding tackle to
that Bayern Munich's attacker. There'd be a straight Red in this kind of
situation, "denies a obvious goal scoring opportunity to an opponent
moving towards the player's goal by an offence punishable by a free kick or
penalty kick" Mike Riley failed to do his job and he gave a free kick for
Bayern Munich.
I
got no idea why Mike Riley is still the top referees in Premier League as he
did so many mistakes before and FA didn't review his refereeing.
From the Laws of the Game in FIFA, No one could talk to referees, nor captains.
Referees can talk to players, but no player would be permitted to talk to
referees. There'd be one of the major problems for FA in England. Players/coaches think they can have power to argue
any referees.
I
watched both game between Man Utd vs Liverpool and Chelsea vs Arsenal. Referees in both games, Steve Bennett and
Mark Clattenburg did their right jobs.... Steve Bennett sent off Javier
Mascherano for his second booking (dissent) and Mark Clattenburg sent off the
assistant coach in last minutes during that match (Referee couldn't give a red
card to coach/manager, but he has power to ask them to leave the pitch)
I think Javier was absolutely stupid to get his yellow card. I watched him
carefully, after he received his first yellow, he was keep trying to
"talk" (I would like to say, complaint about his yellow) Steve
Bennett. Just a moment before he got sent off, Xabi Alonso, who was really
smart to hold him, prevented him to "talk" to referee. I believed
Xabi thought Javier was ok afterward so Xabi didn't hold Javier tightly. Well,
we could see Javier walked to Steve and "talked". There should be
worth for 2nd yellow and he got sent off.
No commentators complaint about this incident as they mentioned it several
times before that. Javier could be sent off due to his stupid action. Indeed,
he did. That's why I got no idea why Rafael Benitez complaint about.
P.S. Steve Bennett is a straight referee and he'd be a good example for any young
referee. He sent off Christiano Ronaldo twice in his career (both incident,
Christiano Ronaldo should be sending off for his fouls) He sent off Patrick
Vieria when Man Utd vs Arsenal in 2003 at Old Trafford. He did a great job
during his career.
At the end, I believe "No go zone" is a good idea for all referees.
Yes, referees can make mistakes, like anyone on the field. But if there'd be so
many terrible incidents we see that in last few years, for example, Chelsea's players ran to referee if they disliked that
decision. Referees could do their jobs properly. That's why I think Graeme Poll
talked to media that referees should be given more supports from FA before he
retired in 2007.
