Dear members of Cinemania,
The ‘Global Chinese Universities Student Film and TV Festival’ has had considerable success in building a collaborative relationship between the higher education institutions in Hong Kong and those in the Greater China Region. The Festival was founded in 2002 by Hong Kong Baptist University’s Department of Cinema and Television. In its first two years it was jointly organized by Hong Kong Baptist University, the Beijing Film Academy and the Shanghai Jiaotong University.
Since 2005 the Festival has been hosted by Hong Kong Baptist University with the support of the HKSAR Government and the local film industry. Last year, the number of participants reached an all-time high. More than 100 selected pieces of work were entered by more than 50 universities. Guests and representatives who attended last year’s event came from film schools in the Greater China Region, Poland, Russia, India, the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom, Australia and the United States. Last year, 1000 guests from different sectors participated in the award presentation ceremony and the ceremony was televised in TVB Entertainment News Channel. As such, the event has now been successfully positioned as “the University Oscars” and has won high acclaim for its role in advancing both the knowledge and technology of film-making among the Chinese universities across the globe.
This year, we will cooperate with Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) to organize the 7th Global Chinese Universities Student Film and TV Festival. The awards presentation ceremony will be televised by ATV Home Channel at 1930 – 2000 hour on Saturdays, 25 April 2009 and 2 May 2009. As the host of this chief annual student film festival in the Greater China Region, it gives me great pleasure to invite you to join our award presentation ceremony. The details are as follows:
