Went to say farewell to this 60-year old vintage restaurant in Wan Chai. It is closing for good by the end of the month to make way for new property development at the same site.

Some of the more iconic features here: Name of the restaurant in ancient script.

A first generation cash register.

Traditional lanterns.

Wooden carvings

Plastic flower beds along the staircase

The food was better than expected. Most impressed by their steamed fish (魽魚) and deep fried scallop in taro paste.
There were plenty of wines on the table as well, most of them were leftovers from the Fair next door. A couple stood out from the others (not the 宁夏蛇龍珠!)

Greyrock Riesling 2008, Hawke's Bay: Pale lemon. Lemon and lime on the nose with some petrol. Dry with refreshing acidity. Delicate and light-bodied, but full of citrus flavours with a lingering finish. Lip-smacking!

Quinta das Setencostas 2006, Alenquer: This Portugese red hailed from an obscure appellation not far north of Lisbon. The grapes were Castelao, Camarate, Tinta Miuda and Petro-Martinho. None of which I had ever heard of! Nevertheless, it was the most balanced red on the table.

Of course most of us would like to become what was described on this wall banner!
