The Day Krug and Dom were Condemned

LVMH must regret their overly zealous campagne in promoting two of their best Champagnes, namely Krug MV and 2000 Dom Perignon.  So many buddies purchased these wines by the dozen in exchange for a free dinner at Lung King Heen, the only Michelin 3-star Chinese restaurant in town, that there is a sudden overflow of these bubblies around our wine circle.

A pair of these unfortunate bottles were brought to a recent dinner and was immediately booed by all of us.  Such is the sorry state of affairs!

Guess we have to bring something more special, and not necessarily more expensive, if we are to be taken more seriously, such as this Billecart-Salmon Cuvee Nicolas Francois Billecart Brut 1998. 

Or this Domaine de la Bongran Botrytis 2003, Macon Villages, reportedly the only sweet wine from Burgundy. 

By the way, this was Master D's birthday dinner, another reason not to bring familiar wines, as he had nearly tasted them all!
