When I watched the news 20 years ago, I also cried. Now that 20 years have gone, China did have a lot of changes in its economy, however, I think we still crave to see more changs in democracy.
There is no democracy if there is no independent legal system. Until now all courts in China are still strictly controlled by communist party. Last week, a Chinese news reported that the new graduates from Departments of Law of colleges all over China has the highest unemployment rate. I was sad reading that news - You know why ? Lawyers are the pioneers and main fighters of freedom and democracy. Lincoln was a lawyer, Even Barrack Obama is a lawyer. All because, I guess, there is no independent court systems yet ! And most importantly is, the communist party afraid of lawyers, so it has no intention to let the legal and court system go free and independent !!! So, "democracy" is still far, far away in China.
The cultural revolution in 1960's was even darker ! A lot of refugees ran to Hong Kong from mainland China. I was a small kid and you were not born yet. Hong Kong people were terrified but felt safe under the protection of English Government. So older Hong Kong people thanked the Queen for protection.
Many people were triggered to leave HK because of the 64 incident. too scary and cruel for a government to do that. my chicken pores rise when I watched the video.
The cultural revolution was even worst. In those years, 1960's, a lot of corpse flowing down to Hong Kong from China...... Around every twenty years, there was a man made disaster. It is scary !!!
Because their requests were for the welfare of the country.
After so many days of peaceful demonstration, we got familiarized with those lovely young Chinese students and considered them as our own kids.
If something bad happens to our kids, we'll cry, so we all cried !
The ups and downs of the development made us worrying. Mr. Chiu Chi Yeung's visiting of the students at the Square has given us hope that the communist party was given in but, but afterwards he talked no more. Then we foreseen something bad would be happening.
