Actually I have launched complaints to Yahoo, but, as you can imagine, nothing really happened~

Haha,, I have fond memories of 供 "臘味會" too,, in my childhood days,  my mom participated a 臘味會 in the Kam Kuk Yung in Central, and this gave her a very good reason of going to Central every month to pay for the installment, and she like to take me with her for the "tour", so that I can help to carry any things that she might want to purchase, a task in which I happily obliged, not only I can have the chance of going to Central, also, if and when she is in good mood and hungry, we can have an afternoon tea nearby.  However, by afternoon tea, I dont mean western or "Cha Chan Tang" style which prevalent these days, instead, we used to go to "Sam Hing" congee and noodle store, and had won tin noodles~~

I guess there is no need to talk about Cathay Pacific, however, I suppose there are some interest to introduce the Blue Funnel Line.  Alfred Holt commenced shipowning with Thomas Ainsworth and built their first new ship in 1854, which they immediately chartered to the French Government for use in the Crimean War. The company started sailings to the West Indies in 1855, but pulled out of this route in the face of competition.   Later, in 1864 they began sailing to China and the Far East, and have since become the major British company serving this area. The company was registered as the Ocean Steamship Co. under the name of Blue Funnel Line in 1865.

 

A Dutch subsidiary, the Nederlandsche Stoomvaart Maatschappij Oceaan, was founded in 1891, as was the East India Ocean Steam Ship Company, operated from Singapore. This latter was sold in 1899 to Norddeutscher Lloyd. The company acquired the competing China Mutual Steam Navigation Company in 1902, keeping it on the books as a separate company but operating it as part of the Blue Funnel Line.

 

The Blue Funnel Line came to an end in 1988 when Ocean Group withdrew from the Barber Blue Sea Service, its last shipping line.

Thank you so much for your assurance, I am not a local Wnachaiese, and although I visit Wanchai quite often, I am not so well versed with the vicinity to say for sure that this is Henessy Road ~~

Frankly, I have feeling that it don’t look like a genuine police station too, the entrance looked too fancy, resembles that of a villa, not the usual post Victorian architectural  style prevalent in the hay days of police station construction.   I guess it was actually some kind of a villa/commercial building located in Kowloon Tong disgusted as Police Station.  Of course, I may be wrong, but judging from the entrance, I really do not have strong confidence of the where about of this "Police Station"

Its ok, in fact, the yahoo blog seems to have infected some kind of flue these few days, I cannot update my blog, reply to response, and the 今日瀏覽：0 stops counting.  Anyway I am used to it, and according to my experience it will take a few days to recover~~

The street scene is undoubtedly fascinating, however, I would like to open a new topic here, ie the song in which 家燕姐sang ( a song with Chinese lyrics for the original pop song “No milk today”) .  The new style romantic Cantonese films of the 60s, with lead actresses such as 蕭芳芳 and 陳寶珠, were abundant with trendy dances and songs to fit the taste of the then youngsters.  As the traditional Cantonese music were considered too old fashioned, and in order to attract young audiences into the cinema, film producers like to include some中詞西曲 into the film, ie inserting Chinese lyrics into popular western pop songs.  This practice proved to be so very successful and you can find them in almost every melodrama of the mid to late 60s Cantonese films. Needless to say蕭芳芳 tops the list and she sang an average 2 to 3 songs in every film, and you can image she sang most of the pop songs at that time in the 中詞西曲 way.  The ones I remember most were “一郁手就聽打” as adapted from “Shaking it all over” and “保齡球之歌” as adapted from “”Moulin Rouge/Where is your heart “.

Exactly, the Queen's Pier was an alternative boarding, embarking pier for wala wala , apart from the water front adjacent to Blake's Pier those days, and also, in the 50s and 60s when flying was consider a luxurious way of travel   people going aboard would consider cruising as a cheaper alternative.  While Ocean Terminal was not fully operational/ only serve luxurious ships at that time , the Queen's pier was used by small vessels taking passengers to ships that buoyed in the midst of Victoria Harbour, and bound for overseas countries~~

well, you can also set up a blog about remembrance of the district in which you were brought up too, this way, I too can enjoy the stories about days past as well as any nostalgic photos that you might care to post~~

If you watch the cantonese films in the 50s and 60s, you will be surprised to see that the passagers, when leaving the plane, will only need to take a few steps and he/she will be inside the terminus, and, whats more, their relatives/friends are allowed to go into the air pitch to welcome them ( in the 50s, they can even accompany with the passengers to walk unto the plane, and bid farewell to them practically at the door of the plane).  This is really unthinkable nowadays, but in those days, security and custom/immigration is really not a consideration, as those who can afford to travel by plane were mostly the rich and famous, hence there is no need to worry about thier integrity thus security adhered~~

One thing I would like to add though, that many of the street scences of the 50s 70s cantonese films were taken in Kowloon Tong, I suppose the reason was because at that time, Kowloon Tong was a rather high class residential area ( it still is nowadays), accordingly there is not much cars and pedestrains around , thus it is rather conveinent for film shooting.  Another reason may be that Kowloon Tong is rather near to the film studos of Diamond Hill, according when the Directors require some street scences shooting, they naturally will think of Kowloon Tong first~~

haha,, such a warm and wonderful childhood memory.  In fact , I have similiar exp in my secondary schooldays too~~

haha, how come you are so familair with 新月舞廳??

I suspect so, that the 伯特利英文書院/伯特利神學院 has 2 entrances, one at 延文禮士道,, one at 嘉林邊道, but the photo is taken at the entrance of 神學院, so it is likely that this is the 嘉林邊道

Intersting, I love this game~~

The second one was taken in Grampian Road, the College was Bethel Bible Seminary(伯特利神學院).  The Bethel Bible Seminary was established by the Christian Bethel in Shanghai in 1925 .  It was then relocated from Shanghai to Hong Kong in1938 and in early 1947 it was renamed "Bethel Theological Seminary College” and is located in 45-47 Grampian Road, Kowloon Tong.

As far as i know, in the 50s to 60s, taxi can be of any colours, red, yellow, black and white strips, etc, ( not to mention the unlicnesed taxi, the "pak pai"), this was because taxi belong to different companies, and different companies were free to paint whatever colours they like onto their own taxi.  It was until 70s that stricter regulations were imposed onto taxi, that designated colours were allocated to hk/kowloon, NT and lantau taxi~~
