Introduction

Do you fear the loss? When you are 6 years old, you will give the answer “No” because you don’t know what is the loss. How about 18 years old? You will almost have the same answer. Why? It is because you are not care on what you already have. But if you aged 30 or over, will you be possible to give out the same answer? That is what the followings paragraph wants to discuss.

In 2006, there is a movie called "2 become 1" which is about a 30’s something woman getting loss. It was acted by Mirriam Yeung and Richie Ren. The story is revised from one of a HK famous writer XiXi's book (哀悼乳房). In the movie, Mirriam is a 30’s something who gets loss of her breast. It used the element of a comedy and affection to show how three different 30’s something women facing the loss.

About the movie:

Bingo (Mirriam Yeung), a customer service manager of an advertising company, she always enjoy a carefree life. One day, she meets the doctor V (Richie Ren) in a barroom and her life has changed. In that night, V suddenly discovered a hard piece in Bingo's breast. After the confirmation though the whole body check, Bingo got shock. It is because she afraid that there is no any man who would like to love her after losing part of the breast, and the dream to get married and wonderful life is disappeared, so she didn't want to take any surgery. At that moment, V tried hard to help her to face the problem. At last, she got a new taste on her life and has enough confidence to face the problems.

The representation of the three 30’s something women in the movie.

According to the introduction of the film, everyone knows that the story is about a woman who suddenly got the breast cancer and how she faces on it. The film had showed us what and how the women’s did and thought in facing the loss different scenarios. To discuss the representation, we need to compare the three women in following questions. (Bingo, and her two closed friend)

Why Bingo has to be represented as a woman having small size breast? What is the response of the loss of part of the breast (loss of self-esteem) of Bingo?

What is the desire of women in the film?

What is the response of the loss of boyfriend (loss of love) of the other woman (Bingo's friend)?

Treat the film as a case study of how the 30’s something ladies facing loss. Why Bingo scare the loss of her breast? And why her friends scare the loss of the boyfriend?
