KINO/09 German Film Festival
This is Germany's answer to "The Postman Always Rings Twice" (1981) Jack Nicholson and Jessica Lange, (1946) Lana Turner and John Garfield.
Jericow is a small town in Germany. Ali Ozkan (Hilmi Sozer) a Greek, runs a chain of restaurants with the help of his wife, Laura (Nina Hoss). Then came the handyman Thomas (Benno Furmann), thus completing the triangle. The story unfolds naturally along lines not unlike its predecessors. But, the ending is very different.

A German film. Very beautiful story, with breathtaking scenes of cherry blossoms, Mount Fuji, and delicate relationships. Haunting scenes of Japanese Butoh dances. This is a film that makes you sign, if not cry, after watching, and one that you will remember for a long time.
I was watching the last show, a sat. afternoon. Surprisingly, the auditorium was almost full, mostly by youngsters!

The Warrior and the wolf 狼災記

Interesting observation in the Saturday morning show we attended: A male audience walked out at about 1/3 of the movies, quite obviously bored. Right after he left, Maggie Q appeared on the screen with the first of the many ensuring hot, steaming sex scenes. Soon after it started, a female audience walked out.

Allen's back in America after his movies made in Europe. This time it's about a family of three from the mid-south. He is back to himself, I mean you can see and hear Woody Allen all over even though you are looking at and listening to Larry David. He talks about his favourite subject, religion. He is very blunt this time: "There's no use, father, there's no one up there." the girl tells her father. There is also sex, different types. The love affair of the elderly man, a fast talking intellectual and a very young girl appears again here. There was one in another Allen movie, in black and white many years ago.
He's not a believer but he is preaching his own version of a religion. Life is meaningless as so much is left to blind chance, everything is heading for total annihilation, nothing lasts. But on the other hand, be true to yourself and enjoy life, whatever works.

The title of the movie is a single digit. It's animation sci-fi, machines vs human nature. This short film is very well put together, with voices coming from Christopher Plummer and Martin Landau.
