Eagle eye
Just opened today, slightly ahead of North America. Old wines in new bottle, but quite entertaining:

Italian family, a couple with two sons, Gigi and Giancarlo, about 10, moved to Germany and settled down. The sibling rivalry, spread over 3 decades, 1964, 74 and 84, involving betrayal and abandonment, ended up in reunion and forgiveness without having to say a word. You don't have to be a Italian to feel the family bond. Gigi, the younger brother, at 10, asked a movie director how he could become one like him. He told him, "go at it with ardour and passion". There's a moving scene, Gigi took care of his mother when she was ill. She said to him, "Go. Live your life."
A very good movie. One commentator on the IMDb put it well, "That's what movies all about." It will be shown as part of the German Film Forum.

Saw 2 in-flight movies en route back to HK As with any in-flight movie, there is so much distraction that it's quite difficult to assess the movie.
"88 minutes" (2007) is a thriller starring Al Pacino. Critics don't seem to like it (and that is putting it mildly) but I found it quite enjoyable, perhaps because of the in-flight factor. Pacino plays a psychology professor who received a warning that he has only 88 minutes to live, from a seriel murderer-rapist convicted because of his expert opinion. The movie actually runs for 108 minutes, a tad too long. But then I had 15 hours to kill!
"Stop-loss" (2008) is a fair-to-good Iraq War movie, exploring its traumatic effect on returning soldiers. In the lead are Ryan Phillippe (Crash, Flags of our Fathers) and Channing Tatum (Step Up, and a cameo in Step Up 2).
