JOHN LENNON'S UFO
SIGHTING
John's ufo sighting ocurred on August 23, 1974, while
he was staying in New York, with his assistant, May Pang, during the infamous lost
weekend. He makes reference to this experience on the cover of his album "Walls and
bridges" released also in 1974.
The July 96 issue of the british UFO magazine "encounters"
tells May Pang'sstory, through quotes taken from her book "Loving John". The
following article is reproduced from the magazine (issue 9, p.53):
"We had just ordered up some pizzas and since it was such a warm
evening, we decided to step out on to the terrace, " recalled Pang . "There were
no windows directly facing us from across the street, so John just stepped outside with
nothing on, in order to catch a cool breeze that was coming in right off the East River. I
remember I was just inside the bedroom getting dressed when John started shouting for me
to come out on to the terrace.
I yelled back that I would be right there but he kept screming for me
to come out on to the terrace
. I yelled back to him that I would be right there, but he kept screaming for
me to join him in that instant. As I walked out onto the terrace, my eye caught this
large, circular object, coming towards us. It was shaped like a flattened cone and on top
was a large, brilliant red light, not pulsating as on any of the aircraft we'd seen
heading for a landing at Newark airport.
When it came a little closer, we could make out a row or circle
of white light that ran around the entire rim of the craft--these were so many that it was
dazzling to the mind. It was, I estimate, about the size of a Lear jet, and it was so
close that if we had something to throw at it, we probably would have hit it quite
easily"
Eerily the object passed by.
"We often had helicopters flying above us but this was as silent
as the night and about seventeen stories above the street level."
The object flew off but returned later, by which time she and
Lennon had set up a telescope through which they could view it in more detail.
"The light was so brilliant coming from the craft that no
additional details could be seen. We did take a couple of pictures but they turned out
overexposed.
They also rang a local newspaper to report the sighting and were
told at least seven other people had seen the UFO too.
"We even called the police, that's how excited we were, and they
told us to keep calm, that others had seen it too". During what was left of the
evening, John kept saying, "I can't believe it... I can't belive it... I've seen a
flying saucer!".
*note : Lennon also made reference to his UFO sighting in the lyrics to "Nobody
told me", where he wrote "There's UFO's over New York/And I ain't too
surprised"...Strange days indeed!

The
Lennon Wall was formerly an ordinary historic wall in Prague, but since
the 1980s, people have filled it with John Lennon-inspired graffiti and
pieces of lyrics from Beatles songs.
In 1988 the wall was a source of irritation for the then communist
regime of Gustav Husak. Young Czechs would write grievances on the wall
and in a report of the time this led to a clash between hundreds of
students and security police on the nearby Charles Bridge. The movement
these students followed was described ironically as Lennonism and Czech
authorities described these people variously as alcoholics, mentally
deranged, sociopathic, and agents of Western capitalism.
The wall continuously undergoes change and the original portrait of
Lennon is long lost under layers of new paints. Even when the wall was
re-painted by some authorities, on the second day it was again full of
poems and flowers. Today, the wall represents a symbol of youth ideals
such as love and peace.
The wall is owned by the Knights of the Maltese Cross, who allowed the graffiti to continue on the wall.

Nobody Told Me – John Lennon
Everybody’s talking and no one says a word
Everybody’s making love and no one really cares
There’s nazis in the bathroom just below the stairs.
Always something happening and nothing going on
There’s always something happening cooking and nothing in the pot
They’re starving back in China so finish what you got.
They’re starving back in China so finish what you got.
Nobody told me there’d be days like these
Nobody told me there’d be days like these
Nobody told me there’d be days like these
Strange days indeed
strange days indeed.
Everybody’s runnin’ and no one makes a move
Everyone’s a winner
and no one seems to lose.
There’s a little yellow idol to the north of Katmandu.
Everybody’s flying and no one leaves the ground
Everybody’s crying and no one makes a sound.
There’s a place for us in movies you just gotta stay around.
Nobody told me there’d be days like these
Nobody told me there’d be days like these
Nobody told me there’d be days like these
Strange days indeed
most peculiar Mama.
Everybody’s smoking and no one’s getting high
Everybody’s flying and never touch the sky
There’s Ufo’s over New York and I ain’t too surprised.
Nobody told me there’d be days like these
Nobody told me there’d be days like these
Nobody told me there’d be days like these
Strange days indeed
most peculiar. Mama.
The
line "There's UFO's over New York/And I ain't too surprised" was taken
from an actual incidnt. In 1974, John and his lover May Pang were
living in an apartment overlooking New York's East River, when John saw
what he thought was a UFO. According to Pang, John yelled out the
window "come back - take me!". John ever wrote a liner note on his
"Walls And Bridges" album cover "I saw a UFO, JL, NYC, 1974."

John Lennon was always fascinated with UFO's, even going as far
as to subscribe to a British magazine called the "Flying Saucer Review"
as early as the late 60's. If you are as interested with Lennon's UFO
encounter as I am, you should go to this site: http://www.mara.org.uk/John%20Lennon%20UFO.htm
It includes an interview
with May Pang, who supposedly saw the UFO, and she is not shy about the
incident. She even says that it was not John's first encounter with a
UFO!- Roy, Granbania, MA

Imagine -Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one
