Hong Kong Government Hospital ~ 屯門醫院

Hello, my name is Joe and I live in Hong Kong with my wife now. I have a lot to say about living in HK and my wife told me I should write a blog and let people see and hear of what I think about HK.

To start this of, I just got out of the hospital for an infection in my foot. I have had a lot of problems with my feet in the past and could not do anything about it in the states because of the high cost of medical and I did not have insurance.

On Jan. 23, my foot swelled so much I could not get any of my shoes on for work. I tutor children here in english speaking. So my wife took me to the clinic. She has told me that it is cheap here to go and see a doctor. I have seen for my self now. The clinic visit and with pills cost 240 dollars HK. In US dollars it came out to be 30 dollars. My foot was not getting any better so I went to the hospital on the 28th. I went by ambalance to the government hospital and they took me as fast as they could. The hospitals are very busy. You have to have patience going there and to the clinics. But they are very good and caring when you are there.

In the hospital, the nurses check your blood pressure and temp every 2 hours and you get your meds on time. They make sure you are comfy no matter what. You  are in a room with 8 to 10 other patients but they make everyone as comfy as they can.

I was there for 3 days. I could not sleep there because of being in a strange place and there was a patient who was mentaly ill. there that was yelling all the time. Very boring to stay there since all the TV stations were in chinese, but the staff there was great and took very good care of me.

For my first time in a HK hospital it was a good experence and if things go wrong with me I will go back.

Having a HKID now saves me a lot of money and I will go to the doctors when I do need to. The hospital cost 100 dollarsHK per day. The total cost so far for my foot is less then 100 dollars US. that is the clinic, hospital and all the meds I have received.

I love living in HK with my wife. Now all the problems I had in the states I can get taken care of by people that care.
