Interviews

After sending out numerous job application and a number of reject letters, finally I got some invitation to interview. It was so disappointing at first when all the feedback were negative and really disencouraging. Though not sure if I will get any offer, at least it proves that my education background and work experience is good enough to be shortlisted even I am not local.

10/10: Cummins - Graduate Recruitment Assistant

This is a very big engine manufacturer with branches all over the world, they are looking for someone to assist in the grduate recruitment team to recruit trainees. The interview was quite easy, only very standard questions were asked and when the interviewer mention they this position involved travelling around to different universities and presentations, I knew I am not a suitable candidate. Even though I am not selected, I think this is a good company with the policies and procedures well established, and very efficient HR team in terms of invitation for interview, giving directions and transportation reimbursement.

23/10: Radisson Edwardian Hotel - HR Officer

Radisson is a large hotel group in the world, Radisson Edwardian is part of the hotel group operating in London and Manchester. They got a lot of Asian style decoration in the hotel and diverse ethnic group working in the hotel. Interview questions are again straightforward, the HR Director told me their special organisational structure that most of their functions are centrally controlled, for example they got a central HR Team which supports the recruitment and benefits administration for all the 13 hotels in the group. In each propoerty, they have 1-2 HR personnels to coordinate with the central team. This is quite new to me, and it also means that the HR officer would be working alone in the hotel which I know I am not experienced enough. She went on to tell me the same thing that I had no experience of working in UK, so they could only consider me for a trainee position. Now just wait for the result, though there is little hope. 

24/10: MacDonald's Bear Hotel - HR/Finance Administrator

MacDonals's Hotel Group has more than 45 hotels and resorts in UK, but the Bear Hotel is a really small hotel with only 54 rooms and only 50 staff, in a tiny town near Oxford. The GM interviewed me, she is nice and talkative young lady, I believe it would be fun and warm to work in this hotel. The interview last 1 hour and she asked a lot about my past experience and education. She even showed me around the property which made me feel welcomed. But I think this is not suitable for me because it is too small and there is limited career development opportunity for me and it will not look good on my CV.

These are the interviews coming up next week, which I like better the companies and titles, so just wish for the best.
