Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Not Spellbinding
As a novel, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is one of the best. I cannot say that about its movie adaptation, however.
If you have read the book, you pretty much know the story line. Harry Potter is going back to Hogwarts for his 4th year, taking the same classes again, but with a twist--This year, Harry is chosen by the goblet of fire to participate in the Triwizard Tournament, which is made up of three increasingly difficult tasks. What a tough life for Harry.
If you think life is tough for Harry, life is even tougher for the movie’s director, Mike Newell: he has to turn a 700-page novel into a 2.5 hour movie. While Newell manages to cover the highlights of the book, the scene and dialogue cuts have made the plot confusing to those who have not read the book.
As in previous movies, the cast has done a fine job portraying teen wizards, strange teachers and annoying villains. However, I have found the acting to lack depth, as each character is portraying a stereotype. But what do you expect out of a children’s movie?
All in all, the movie is enjoyable enough, even if it lacks a bit of magic. Perhaps the director will remember to cast a spell over the audience next time.
