HKCEE 2009 Paper 1B task 2

Your recent coverage on the feasibility of home schools leaves me wondering: Sure, I sometimes find school routines tiresome; sure, I have teachers who do not pay enough attention to me.  But is the alternative any better?

Let’s imagine for a moment my parents have decided to homeschool me.  How will they even find a quiet space for a lesson in our home? Where do I get learning materials and laboratory equipments for my subjects?  And even if I can make all these work, why do I want to stay coopered up all day in a little flat, with no one to talk to but my teacher– if such a know-it-all is even to be found?

I can lie and say my school teachers make the biggest difference in my education; but in reality, my classmates are what makes Kwai Chung Secondary School  a second home to me.  We discuss our lessons; we complain about life; we tease each other.  I will not miss it for the world.

I for one am glad that the government will not legalize home schooling any time soon.  Just imagine my mom watching over my shoulder all day – or worse, my teacher’s. No, thank you!
