"Everyone has his story of Brokeback Mountain..."

Finally watched Brokeback Mountain, a very moving and delicate film about a gay couple.  Haven't read the novel yet, but will do definitely.  I heard some of the most touching parts are better portrayed in the original text, another reason is that the cow-boyish English is so hard to understand... I am sure I missed out quite a lot ><

Even so, I like the film and could't help but keep thinking of Lan Yu (yes.. not Happy Together coz it's too self-indulgent to me).  Both LY and BB Mt. tell a painful yet touching love story, each of them struggle in their homo/hetrosexual world for years, marriage and family, separate and reunion, fight and intensity, one died in the end and left the other side suffer in sorrow...  all so familar and similar to each other.... The biggest difference I can find is their setting - historically and geographically - if Brokeback Mountain is set with 'nature' that only grassland and sheeps allow their forbidden love in the 60s US, Lan Yu is definitely more on the 'cultural' side with heavy implication on politics, fast-changing cities in 80-90s China... 

Tonight's cinema is almost full-house with quite many youngsters, never seen that before in the Art Center!!!  must be the effect of the bafta awards last night after the golden globe... I dunno much about the other nominated films but have to say even the film is good, it's a bit surprising that it got so many substantial awards... Is America really running out of talents and good stories as rumours described?
