電視的「雪花」、「一間間」、「鬼影」和「沙沙聲」英文點講?
今天談談關於電視畫面的這些那些。電視壞了或接收有問題時,畫面出現的「雪花」、「一間間」、「鬼影」和聽見的「沙沙聲」英文是什麼?讓我們看看以下引文找答案,以下節錄來自ABC News 一篇關於高清電視(High Definition Television, HDTV)的文章http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/story?id=2687614 : "All of the major networks -- ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox -- broadcast their big, prime-time shows (黃金時段節目) in HD and often will also broadcast specials (特備節目) and sporting events in high definition (以高清技術播放). All you need is an antenna and a tuner to watch those programs. There's no snow (雪花), static (沙沙聲), lines (一間間)or ghosting (鬼影), but if you're in the wrong area, you may not get reception (接收訊號) at all."
特別一提的是,我們說的「雪花」,英文是snow, 有趣的是普通話也叫「雪花(xue3 hua1) , 非常方便。Ghosting 就是「鬼影」,十分好記。Static is the noise on a radio or television caused by electricity in the air, 即是我們說的「沙沙聲」。有些電視接收有問題時, there is static or snow on all channels. But some TVs will display a blue screen (「影住個藍色畫面」) with the message "no signal".
有一次做傳譯時,那人說:「我部手提喺地庫度收唔到。」那就是My mobile phone didn’t get reception in the basement. ,也可以說It didn’t get any signal there.
今日問題: 「手緊」、「勉強夠頂」、「月尾埋唔度尾」、「搵朝唔得晚」、「手停口停」等窮困的處境,英文點講?

Hi, Principal! That's the difference between our active vocabulary and passive one. Active is vocabulary actually used, while passive vocabulary is vocabulary understood. To improve our writing and speaking, we've got to turn our passive vocabulary into an active one. The process involves both absorption (by reading and listening a lot) and practice (by writing and speaking a lot). That's why they say 聽讀寫講同樣重要!
To do translation, we have to go one step further - establish the linkage. We've got to link up ways to express the same idea in both languages. Little exercises like what we've been doing get us prepared and the links we've worked out would just come in handy when they're needed one day!

勉強夠頂: I am living paycheck to paycheck.
月尾埋唔度尾: I can't live through the month end?
搵朝唔得晚: ( this one I really am not sure... but let me guess the context) I don't have a stable income?
手停口停: I won't be able to feed myself without a job? If I lose my job?
Kelli, I am looking forward to your answers! :)
