In search of....

To those who have frequented my blog over the last year, I'm sure you must have noticed the many deleted entries.  Worry not, because this is just what Yours simply happens to do whenever she feels like she needs to forget someone or something...

She presses - DELETE - !  Zzzzap.  Writings, angst, bad memories, gone.  As they keep saying, out of sight, out of mind...

and it works...given time.... 

But because Yours simply is a true Taurean, love-dies-hard....

Given that she'd always thought it was always better to have loved than never to have loved before, in 2008 Yours simply charged straight ahead and went for it, then fell head over heels in love with someone she thought was the One...

Notwithstanding the things that she gradually found was "wrong" with him, the ever bull-headed Yours simply decided to stay, to help, to cheer him up...and she fought, fought hard to understand and be understood, fought hard to love and be loved, and then...

became alone...again.  Just proves that you can't fight to be chosen.

Oh wells.  One lives and learns...and it is not as if she hasn't been alone before.

The only difference is that she's 30 now, and surely does not want to go the Bridget Jones way of "dying alone in an apartment and eaten by an Alsatian."

So guess what, Yours simply - the usually reserved, aloof, ice-queen, as you all say - signed up for a speed dating exercise.  No kidding. 

Because didn't someone once tell her that she had to "make herself available" ?

Whatever that means...

So speed dating came and went.  There were around 15 guys and the conversation typically went like this:-

Male X: Hi! I'm X.  I'm a _________.  In my free time I like to play video games, football, go for happy hour.  I also like photography and travelling.

Yours simply: Hi, I like travelling too.  Since you asked, I'm a _________ by occupation.

Male X: Wow.  Oh.  Um. 

(dead air)

Male X: Eh....What sort of cases do you do??  But wait, you charge an hourly rate, right?

Of course, there were the few well-meaning ones who asked the why, what and when, which Yours simply honestly answered.   All in all, Yours simply gathered that:-

1) she was generally considered attractive and desirable (not that she wasn't satisfied with what Mum and Dad gave her, but she honestly didn't think that looks mattered THAT much! Or maybe Yours simply is just too naive?);

2) she was not considered too-old at all (thank you guys!); and whilst

3) they could not believe that she did not have a lot of guys going after her (but their reactions confirmed the truth - see below); unfortunately

3) what she does for a living was a MAJOR turn-off to the guys (oh dear); and therefore

4) she was in the wrong place (ooops)

*sigh*

But still, a learning experience and no harm done.  And if it makes her a few friends, Yours simply does not mind.  Some were actually nice enough to suggest that she try another speed dating agency, which Yours simply is minded to do.
