無情的人，PK的事

唔經唔覺響呢間死人公司都做左五年，每一年都以為自己做完呢一年就會走，每一年都冇走到。琴日係五年中最大浪既一日。

作為一間美資跨國企業，當美國經濟衰退之時，少不免就會裁員。(ummmm i feel better to write in english) more than one month ago, there was an announcement about re-organization of the department and immediately everyone knew there would be a workforce reduction top down from worldwide, starting from management level. we had no idea how much cost they want to save. we only knew that the redundancy pay would be slightly better than the package of labor dept. and if anyone is interested, he s welcome to propose. we also got a piece of info that our GM would handin the final list to AP on July 21 and the termination would be effective on Aug 1.someone questioned whether there would be enough time for handover with only less than 10 WDs. the feedback was "in this situation, letting anyone staying longer will only drag down the morale." that is a valid point. but no one ever expected it to be soooooooooooo badly done.

not a piece of news from the GM since that day but two people resigned. i did heard my boss (the GM) discussing with the finance about people's R&R and so. July 21 passed, no further info. July 30 also passed, everyone thought if it happened, it should have happened already. and none asked whether someone was "hit".

right until July 31 evening 5.30pm, Ms A was asked to meet the GM in the quiet room. Ms A is in her early 30s, has been working in the company for about 10 yrs as an Admin Asst of the dept supporting more than 40 people and also the personal secretary of the GM. as she stepped into the room, she saw HR and her boss. she came out with her eyes all red. later she said her boss said no words during the whole conversation . 10 mins later, Ms T was called in. she is the Mktg Mgr of the dept, has been in the company for more than 10 yrs. everyone calls her "the Principal" and she s the "friend" of the GM, at least that s how they project to be. she came out with red eyes too. n during her conversation with the HR, the GM added few words. the third and last one is Mr. R, he s a sales rep who has been working for about 13 yrs, the only sales person who is in charge of govt tender. but no one knows how Mr R got his news of the month.  sharp at 6pm, they were busy fetching for boxes to pack, they were asked to finish their work on the next day and never return.

i had no clue at the moment coz i was too busy working for the quarter end / opening and i thought they were packing for the other girl in the marcom team whose last day would be next Tues. initially that girl proposed to take the redundancy pay but her proposal was rejected. and Ironically, just couple of days ago Ms A and Ms T sent invitation for the girl's farewell party on friday night. they didnt know friday was their last day in this company. and the girl didnt know her boss would leave earlier than her when she deliberately postponed her last day to Tues coz she wanted to stay until her boss's birthday.

the GM said nothing to them after those 3 meetings and she declined the party invitation. i knew just as the 3 were packing and groaning, she hid herself behind the partition and listened to everything people say. i knew coz i saw how she popped up from nowhere when i was chitchatting with another person on sthg not relatied to the redundancy. i saw how hard she tried to soothe the atmosphere in the office and to present herself as "a good boss. at the same time, i know she changed her login password immediately. she is not a bad person and she has very sharp eyes to be a boss. but i guess she can never relate to anyone. n maybe that s why she s not married nor in any kinds of relationship in the last 15 yrs when she s in this company, simply too proud, too smart, too isolating to be anyone's partner.
