Well, I'm a bit disappointed after seeing it, honestly~
For the musical genre, I think I would only give it a marginal pass...
Visually, it can't compare to Moulin Rouge; for the dance sequence and singing part, it can't compare to Chicago, or even Hairspray.
The direction is just ok overall, I think. It is just a mere copy of the staged musical, without much imagination, style and fluent pace. It lost the momentum in the middle, and drags severely as well in my opinion~I almost felt I was seeing an MTV after another without the feeling of a narrative movie in some parts!!!
However, the brilliant cast, the humour and the good location (though not utilised fully) saves the film. Not the mention the Music of ABBA...
Having said that, the James Bond ruined it all...who dare to cast him to sing in this movie? I wonder......yuck~~
My favourite bit is Dancing Queen and Money, Money, Money~~~that's how a musical movie should look and feel like!!!
HAHA the James Bond ruined it all!!! I love this line hahaha. I think I understand how you feel. I alsodislike the singing bit and agree that the cast, ABBA songs and the sunshine save the film. Of course, Moulin Rouge and Chicago is better than Mamma Mia in a number of ways. They are the best muscials in my movie world. (I think the songs at Hairspray are very similar and I became numb at the end.) Anyway, I guess you may agree that Mamma Mia is entertaining, but you feel disappointed as you are the King of Musicals and have seen the musical beforehand. HAHA... by the way, my friend who has TONS of DVDs and seldom watches films at cinema has watched Mamma Mia at cinemas for 5 TIMES!!! GOSH.......

the cast is great (except pierce brosnan....no wonder he is only remembered as 007...have no idea why he is cast in a musical...) but the director may have wasted the good actors and actresses with all the awkward editing and slow progress of plot...
colin firth is again a surprise....his sense of humor works miraculously with his serious british look....
the only reason to make the movie a must-see is meryl streep...don't u think so?
YES! The cast is great, but it is a pity that the three men do not sing well. Besdies, the middle of the film drags a little bit, but on the whole, I think the film is entertaining. When my friends and I left the theatre, we were excited and wore big smiles. Though the film has some flaws, I am entertained and cheered up! Quite good personally... but of course, Chicago and Moulin Rouge are the best!!!
Glad to know that you had a great time. I am not sure if the OST is available now, but I think you can find it in HMVs, BC @ Yau Ma Tei or music stores in Mong Kok. I believe it can be found easily.

I will definitely see it coz I love the cast and the songs. I went to the Musical a few years ago and I loved it soooooooo much that I bought the soundtrack plus the ABBA CDs. :D Really looking forward to seeing it.

I've been longing to see Mamma Mia as soon as I knew the casting involved Meryl Streep and Colin Firth (Mr Darcy!) But it was a bit disappointing to see reviews in MingPao Weekly all saying it is not as good as we expected...anyway, I'll definitely go and watch it coz it's a musical!!
The foreign reviews are just ok (56@ positive), but it seems that the mainstream audience in HK likes it, judging from the comments left in the discussion forums.

Mamma Mia is a really good musical . After i see it i feel very hot , i also want to go in the film , and dance together . If i compare with Sweedy Todd , i think that Mama Mia is better than it . Last i want to say is the music is excleent , especially honey and mamma mia.

星期日已看了這套電影，我大部份時間都是笑不攏嘴
!!!!!故事內容簡單，有很多位是令人發笑! 當中的歌曲有很多我以前都聽過!
另外，又証明了「百花雖好都要綠葉扶持」，假若沒有了「活力雙娃」，我相信會令整套電影失色!!!看到她們，我不禁想起仙杜拉和杜麗沙……(你們知道是誰嗎?)
還有的是，拍攝的場地好美呀!!!!是希臘小島嗎?
