I was watching the repeat telecast of Jade Solid Gold last night when my favourite singer (you-know-who) was introduced on the show. Just then, my mum suddenly asked, "Why is she not smiling? She's so stuck-up".

Sometimes people can be so weird.

When a person does not smile, it does not naturally mean that the person is unhappy or unfriendly. Even babies understand this. When they giggle with laughter, it's because they are happy. When they start crying loudly, it's because they are unhappy.

But somehow, we tend to make this a complicated matter. Regardless of whether you are in a good or bad mood, you are expected to smile, especially so if you are in the entertainment circle.

Why? I have no idea.

There's this actress I rather like who used to get misunderstood by people. In the past, she was criticised because while posing for photographs, she did not smile as much as the other celebrities. Even when she was genuinely happy, she did not show it in her face. When asked why, she said it was because the happiness was within her and in her heart, and she didn't know how to show it.

There is another celebrity who keeps smiling and laughing. Over the silliest matter, she will keep laughing out loud, sometimes for no reason at all. I wonder, is she really happy? Or is she merely trying to please the audience by smiling?

Besides, I like my favourite singer because she can sing, not because she can smile a lot.

She's a singer, not a smiler.

Just like for people who aren't celebrities, it's a rather simple formula actually.

When you're happy, smile with your heart.

    CaoGu: Understood!

chem: Really? So if someone has crow's feet, it means that he/she is really happy! Hahaha. Just joking, ah mah.

iggie: Heehee... But genuinely, I think there are quite a few celebrities like that, and when they are not in front of the camera, they transform into a crazy monster and growl at everyone.

TheSourMango: But not smiling can't be worse than putting on a fake smile.

irishblue: Yeah... I guess so. =)

yeah a smile should come from the heart~ better than those who smile alot but you can tell its all fake smiles.

but she was a little unhappy that day due to some reasons so I guess that's why she wasn't as smiley bah.

yes a smile that comes from within your heart. that's the purest and most genuine smile that anyone can get.

hmm does the celebrity who keeps smilling and laughing refer to....? haha i don't wanna make any assumptions.

Yeah - not smiling does not equate to not being happy (or stuck up, for the matter) that's for sure.

When someone smiles, look at the corners of their eyes.

If there're no lines radiating out, it means that smile's probably fake

I would appreciate a smile that's from within the heart rather than just the pure workings from the muscles...
