Chateau Lalande 1994: fine tannis & fruity!

Chateau Ausone 1985: Full of mineral, fine tannis.

This was quite a very exciting Happy Hour. We had quite a few bottles of wines from different regions. My very personal feelings as far as I can remember, are .....
Our first taste of Talbot Blanc 2001. Turned out to be OK but as always, we expect it to be on the expensive side.
For the Cote de Nuit 2003, the colour was not as light as expected. Had good balance ending on rather nice sweetness. Hints of leather was there. Given a bit of time, I would expect it to be very leathery. Strangely enough, there was only a little nose of orchid, not as much as I expected.
The Ch. Lalande 1994 was fully justified to the vintage. Matured, good fruits, nice tannins. Right time to drink. Fully justified for the status of the wine.
The Leoville Las Cases 1994, I reckon beats all others in terms of price/quality ratio. Very mature, powerful with a lot of fruits. Took quite some time to open up though. Very nice one.
The climax of the afternoon was the Ausone 1985. Personally, I find it contrary to some wine critics. Whether or not it was its class or it's breed, I did not find it a so so wine ( the rating by some not so positive). For a 1985 with P{arker rated only 80 points, it was very deep in clour, not a hint of being tired. It started off with a lot of mineral when later the ripe fruits came more doiminant. Tannin was so .. lovely smooth. It might just have been underrated or it was just our luck to have had a beautiful bottle amongst the normal mediore ones in this vintage for Ausone.
To sum it up, it was a fantastic wine Happy Hour in one afternoon with number 3 signal hoisted and with a lot of rain.
