Pasmore’s early paintings were sensitive, naturalistic landscapes inspired by the French Impressionists and the English landscape tradition of Constable and Turner.

Inspired by Picasso and the Swiss artist Paul Klee, Pasmore adopted simplified geometric forms to produce flat surfaces and the interlocking shapes provide a tightly structured composition with bold yet muted colours. Significantly, his love of nature remained.
