After so many posts I have got a feeling I had been talking to a wall. I asked myself if I was too much of a nuisance to you and that I had overstayed your welcome.
So it is great to see your response. My only reservation is to find you sick. Hope that it was not serious and I wish you have speedy recovery.
Quite devastating. His illness was not in the news and I had no idea he had intestinal cancer.
He is probably the grestest cellist since Pablo Casals. In fact he is a student of Casals. His 1711 Duport Stadivarius is considered one of the greatest music instrument ever made.
I came to know Tchaikovsky's Variations on a Rococo Theme through his interpretation documented on a vinyl record coupling with Dvorak's cello concerto.
I know little about his association/help with the Noble Prize Winner of literature Alexander Solzenitzn (Cancer Ward). But no doubt Solzenitzn's stand on human rights was well known.
Rostropovich, a great musician, widely respected exponent of music for cello died. But his spirit lives on with his rich legacy. Too bad I had not have a chance to attend any of his concerts. Now I can only watch him play on the video.
May he RIP. Our thoughts are with the family members who survive him. Further reading
