I've read in today's HKET (page 20 of Money daily ) a column
advising a lady of 48 yrs how to plan for retirement 2 yrs. later.
Assuming that this is not a bogus example, this lady is said to
have a net asset of HK$10.40 M and her retirement plan is
modest: to maintain a cost of living of HK$20,000 per month.
And this "qualified CFP" got the guts to advise her, (i) to buy
an insurance policy of HK$15.60 M requiring an "one-off"
premium of HK$2.10 M ("woww..", just imagine the commission
this CFP well deserves if she listens to his advice) and (ii) to buy
various asset allocation funds recommended by the fund managers.
Some of you may think that this sort of column does not worth
reading or commenting. It is most likely a created scenario of the
columnist. However, I do know quite a no. of people planning for
their retirement or already retired, who all know very little about
finance planning or investment. I wish that they could start reading
more on this subject, such as the one DIY book listed out below:
