Hida Takayama 6 - Morning Market

After breakfast, I decided to spend a whole day here in Takayama. My first stop was the morning market. There are two morning markets in Takayama. One is the Takayama Jinya-mae Morning Market outside Takayama Jinya and the other is the Miyagawa Market along the river. I like the Miyagawa Market better.

I approached the market from the Yayoibashi Bridge end and ended my visit at the Kajibashi Bridge end.

Here's the history of the Yayoibashi Bridge

This stall sold the Takayama mascot key rings and mobile phone straps. The different colours represented different fortunes! The Japanese are as superstitious as the Chinese!

Chili sauce, anyone?

This gentleman invited me to try his egg white cakes. I bought and tasted one. It was actually quite yummy.

You can't go anywhere without seeing a shop selling Hida beef on a skewer.

Japanese batik?

Before leaving the market, I stopped to get a green tea okashi and spotted that the shop also sold Hida beef and decided to order some. The kind gentlemen told me it would take 4 minutes and invited me to sit inside his shop and wait. Then he offered me green tea. That's genuine Japanese hospitality!

Here's the beef after 4 minutes. As I was sitting in the shop, they served it on a pretty plate!

The view from inside the shop was spectacular! What a lovely day in spring!
