曾章成自習陶藝，專研陶瓷雕塑技巧。1996年創辦個人陶藝工作室，經常與不同機構合作籌辦陶藝活動，希望以陶土這種可親的藝術媒介為社會上的不同社群帶來歡樂。

曾氏作品多以寫實的雕塑形式為表現手法，配合超現實的想像，把「人」與「物」這兩個元素結合成作品主題，期望以有趣的視覺元素引發觀眾重新思考人與萬物的關係，傳達珍惜自然萬物，以和平共融的態度共處的訊息。例如展覽其中的一件作品「Humanosaur」便是曾氏對戰爭的反思。Humanosaur是一些好戰的人類進化而成的生物，是戰士和武器的混合體。它曾經是地球最具力量的統治者，可是最終的命運與恐龍一樣難逃滅亡。

為了配合這個展覽，並傳達展覽背後的訊息，曾氏推行了一項社群陶藝計劃 ─ 「同行泥路上」。這項計劃於2008年2月至11月期間在多間學校、志願團體和服康機構內進行，透過一連串的陶藝工作坊，一眾的傷健人士創造出造型可愛的泥娃娃，表達他們對人類和諧共存的願景。

一天早上趕著出門之際，瞥見瓶中凋謝了的玫瑰，驚覺昨天還在怒放的花朵，今天怎麼忽爾凋萎？不期然放慢步伐，細思之……

美麗的人生不也如玫瑰一樣燦爛嗎？可是人生數十年，彈指便過，當中我們經歷的幾許歡樂與悲傷，追逐的多少名利，愛過的、恨過的、懷念的……在最後當我們人生終結時，也只跟我們一樣，塵歸塵，土歸土。何不趁在當下，把心情放開一些，讓自己自在多一些！

玫瑰以白瓷製作，我在花瓣上雕塑了喜怒哀樂的不同表情，代表著人生中各種經歷，最後也會如花瓣般凋謝、逝去。

When I was about to go out in a rush, I was astonished by a withered rose in the vase. It was still in full bloom yesterday, how come it suddenly withers and fall? I slowed down my pace and wondered...

Isn’t our life as magnificent as the rose? It lasts for a few decades but slips away like the cloud. Our life experience is full of joy and sadness. We have been pursuing personal fame and wealth. We have a lot to love, to hate and to cherish… and finally they all pass away with us, earth to earth, dust to dust. So why don’t we value each moment to make our life easier and happier?

This rose is made of porcelain. Sculpturing on its petals are different facial expressions: pleasure, anger, sorrow and joy. Through this work, I try to reflect what we are experiencing in our life, which will ultimately wither, fall and pass away like the petals.

This work was made in May 2008 to commemorate the victims of the Sichuan earthquake. May the survivors be strong and relieved from their sufferings soon. Hope they can all overcome this devastation and rebuild their lives against all the difficulties!

曾章成

自習陶藝，專研陶瓷雕塑技巧。1996年創辦個人陶藝工作室，經常與不同機構合作籌辦陶藝活動，希望以陶土這種可親的藝術媒介為社會上的不同社群帶來歡樂。自1993年起多次參與本地及海外的聯展，並曾於香港舉辦個人展覽。曾氏作品曾入選「第一屆台灣國際陶藝雙年展」(2004)、「香港藝術雙年展 2005」、「第三屆韓國國際陶瓷雙年展」(2005)、「西班牙第八屆國際陶藝雙年展」(2007)及「瑞士卡魯日國際陶藝比賽2007」。他的作品亦在不同的公眾藝術比賽獲獎，包括「舊物新顏 — 東涌逸東邨公眾藝術第二階段計劃」(2004)、「候風聽雨 — 動感雕塑設計比賽」(2005)及「公眾藝術計劃2006」。曾氏更於2001年獲「夏利豪基金會第十六屆藝術比賽」、2001及2005年獲「陶瓷茶具創作比賽」冠軍，以及2007年獲該項比賽的「傑出造詣獎」。作品為香港藝術館、香港文化博物館、夏利豪基金會、台北縣立鶯歌陶瓷博物館及私人收藏。

Artist's Profile

Johnson Tsang

A self-taught ceramicist, Johnson specialises in ceramic sculpturing. In 1996, he set up his own ceramics workshop, and started to hold ceramic art activities with various organisations, aiming at bringing joy to different communities through clay making.  Since 1993 he has taken part in a number of local and overseas joint exhibitions, and has held solo exhibitions in Hong Kong .  Johnson’s works were cited in “The First Taiwan Ceramics Biennale” (2004), the “Hong Kong Art Biennial Exhibition” (2005), “The 3^rd World Ceramic Biennale 2005 Korea International Competition”, the “VIII Bienal Internacional de Cerámica, Manises , Spain ” (2007) and “The City of Carouge Prize 2007 International Ceramics Competition, Switzerland ”.  His work were also won in various public art competitions, including “New Face of Heritage ─ Installation of Public Artworks at Yat Tung Estate, Tung Chung, Stage II” (2004), “Weather Machines ─ Kinetic Sculptures Design Competition” (2005) and “Public Art Scheme 2006” .  He won the first prize in the “Philippe Charriol Foundation 16^th Annual Art Competition” (2001), winner of the “Tea Ware by Hong Kong Potters Competition” in 2001 and 2005 respectively, and praised with the Outstanding Workmanship Award in the same competition in 2007.  Johnson’s works were collected by the Hong Kong Museum of Art, the Hong Kong Heritage Museum , Philippe Charriol Foundation, Taipei County Yingge Ceramics Museum and private collectors.

Johnson’s works mostly employ realist sculptural techniques accompanied by surrealist imagination, integrating the two elements, “human beings” and “objects”, into creative themes.  He hopes to induce viewers to rethink the relationship between human beings and all objects in the world through the use of intriguing visual elements, so as to convey the message of caring for Nature and the world as well as harmony and integration.

藝術家自白

古希臘哲學家伊比鳩魯說：「死與我們活著的人毫無關係，因為當我們活著時，死亡並不存在；而當死亡來臨時，我們又不存在。」這想法與孔子回答子路的「未知生，焉知死」有著異曲同工之妙！死亡對我們這些凡夫俗子來說，確是神秘而未解的謎團。在我的雕塑中，不難找到死亡的題材，也有一些作品是死物、植物與人類結合的異像。可是，我的作品所探究的並非未知的死亡；相反，我們應怎樣生活、如何選擇，才是我最關心的課題。

思想上，人類早已把自己從萬物中抽離，人自視為萬物之靈，認為自己可以支配萬物、主宰萬物，因此人類很多時選擇操控，甚至破壞自然萬物。我們不停開發及掠奪大自然的資源，以圖改善人類的生活，可是我們真的活得更好了嗎？反常的氣象和天災，是否在不停警告我們要停下來再想一想？即使是人與人之間，亦往往充滿著歧視、不滿與仇恨，鬥爭甚至戰爭每天也在發生。我希望藉著作品中的奇異景像，刺激觀眾重新審視自身與自然，以及人與人之間的關係。

人生來去怱怱數十載，眨眼即逝，我們來時一無所有，去時亦什麼也帶不走，當中的喜怒哀樂、榮耀、失意……在最後回顧一生時，輕於微塵。然而，生與死之間，最叫人難以釋懷的是悔疚，人往往在摯愛去世後，才驚覺自己忘了在他生前親口告之有多愛他；在自然美景消逝之後才懷念以往美好的風光……我們何不當下便開始學習珍惜身邊的人和事？何不就在自己仍有能力之時，為世界及身邊的人釋放多一點正能量？

Artist’s Statement

The Ancient Greek philosopher Epicurus said, “Death does not concern the living, because when we are alive, death does not exist; but when death does come, we no longer exist.”  This is similar to Confucius’s answer to his student Zi Lu’s question about death: “If you do not know about life, how you could understand death?”  Yet, to us mere mortals, death is definitely a mysterious and unresolved riddle.  Death is a common theme for my sculptures.  Some of my works are visionary pieces that merge objects and plants with human beings.  However, what my works are actually exploring is not the unknown of death, but how we should live and make our choices. That is the topic that I concern most.

Mentally, human beings long since isolated themselves from all other beings.  We crowned ourselves as the paragon of the universe, and thought that we could master and manipulate everything.  Hence, human beings often opt for controlling or even destroying the nature.  We have been exploiting and plundering natural resources to improve our lives.  However, would this really make our life better?  Aren’t the abnormal weather and natural disasters signs that warn us to stop and think?  Discrimination, discontent and hatred, struggles and even wars happen every day.  What I am trying to do is to stimulate the audience to reassess the relationship between human, the nature and interpersonal relationships through the strange phenomena shown in my works.

Life is short, and flashes away in a blink.  We come to the world with nothing, just as we leave with nothing.  When looking back, you will find the happiness, anger, sadness, joy, honour and despair in our lives are as trivial as dust.  In spite of this, the most frustrating feeling between life and death is remorse.  Only when our beloved pass away can we realise the missed opportunities to tell them how much we loved them.  Only when the natural views are gone would we begin to miss the fine old scenes.  Why don’t we learn to cherish the things and people around us in the moment?  Why don’t we radiate more positive energy to the world and people around us when we are still capable of doing so?
