Yes, reading this  kind of books is real difficult, especially if you aren't interested  in the topic.  Better break each time you finished reading a few pages.

I am more into politics, so I read "East & West" by Chris Patten, and "The Last Governor"by Jonathan Dimbleby.

There're five six copies of THE GOD DELUSION in HKPL's collections, and I've placeda hold request for one.   I am an atheist too...

HK is hot as hell these days.  Don't know what it's like in Heaven!

This is very timely help for the students in Hong Kong.

That is a book I'm currently reading. It is an interesting and inspiring book written by the award winning author Richard Dawkins. The book is written in very good style and if you're into the subject you're gonna benefit a lot from it.

When you start reading for the first time the hardest part is that there're 2 to 3 words that you don't know in almost every sentence you read. What you can do is look up every word you don't know in a dictionary. It's going to be dauntingly slow. When I first started reading real English it took me almost an hour to read just 2 to 3 pages. But as time goes by, you'll know more words and get faster.

It doesn't really matter whether or not you remember the meaning of the words. Normally it takes at least 3 to 4 dictionary look-up to acquaint yourself with a word.

Searched the book  (The God Delusion) you mentioned and read a small protion of it. However, I found the English is very difficult and hard to understand. I always want to read the good English book, but I feel very tired and lose my interests if I have to check the dictionary all the time. Also, I can't remember the words even I check the same word from the dictionary several times. Can you advise how to solve this problem?

By the way, do you agree with the argument of Richard Dawkins?

"age" 尾而讀作這個 consonant 的字不多，而全部都是近代由法文借來的字。記了所有常用的就夠用了。

例如：massage, camouflage, barrage, espionage, garage, mirage, bon voyage 等等。

You asked the right question, to which there's no satisfactory answer. This is one of the main difficulties in English pronunciation learning - that there's no direct relationship between a word's spelling and its pronunciation. Not all "sion" endings are pronounced with the consonant I talked about in this clip; and the "age" in most words are pronounced as a normal "g" sound instead of this weird foreign sound. So all we can do is look up a dictionary whenever in doubt.

Having said that, there are indeed some not-so-reliable generalising rules by which you can try predict the sounds of a word.

- when a "sion" is preceded by a vowel, it is normally pronounced with this "voiced sh" sound.

- a "age" ending is pronounced with this "voiced sh" sound if the word is a recently borrowed french word. You can get the hint from where the stress is placed in the word in its American pronunciation - in American English most 2-syllable newly borrowed French words are stressed on the second syllable: fillet, buffet, latte, cafe, etc.

I believe the sentence is ungrammatical.

and "cut to the chase" is an established idiom. It means skipping all the boring introductory thing and go straight to the really exciting parts.

I'd say "There are many tasks for we to finish" is unconventionally correct.

Renowned writers have this kind of privileges!

I would like to know under what condition should we use 'for + object+to infinitive' or 'for + subject+ to infinitive'. Or what I saw is wrong already?
