Last Friday, I attended a ceremony, where Dr Choi Yuen Wan (蔡元雲醫生) was the guest speaker. This devout Christian shared with us a story:
" In a Christian fellowship gathering, Dr Choi reluctantly chose a young adult with spiky hair and an obstinate face as his partner in a game. Let's call him Spiky. When the game started, everyone had to immerse their feet into some pitch-black ink and walk a few steps. After that, one of the partners had to squat down and wash the other's ink-stained feet with a small basin filled with water.
Very unwillingly, Dr Choi started doing the 'dirty' job. Despite the feeling of disgust, he put his heart in the cleansing. Out of the corner of his eyes, he unexpectedly discovered that tears welled up in Spiky's eyes.
To Dr Choi's surprise, the partners were told to swap roles. His first instinct was to hide his toes, his never-manicured and dirt-rimmed toes. A rush of shame swept through him. He simply couldnt expose his imperfection in front of others, not to mention a total stranger. It was no difference from being stripped naked."
As the saying goes, it is more blessed to give than to receive. However, not many can realize that it is far more difficult to receive than to give since we need to pluck up tonnes of courage to come face-to-face with our own frailties and vulnerability.
I do know life is not meant to be perfect, but it is easier said than done!

In a spiritual sharing, somebody also mentioned our unwillingness to receive. We don't want to feel indebted for a service or a favour. That's why.
You've got very interesting blog posts here. I'm particularly interested in your handicrafts.

Thanks so much for visiting my blog and your compliment again!
Life has been busy since the school terms started last September, so I miss making dolls and doing embroidery a lot. I need these hobbies to help me escape from my rather mundane and stressful life.
