8) Why should you choose to learn from Uncle Martin?

Uncle Martin was determined to excel in English when he was only 12 (primary 6). He read crazily on his own and devoured a lot of English language college textbooks in his first year in middle school.

Armed with his excellent command of English, he was able to land himself on jobs in foreign businesses after less than 2 years with a Hong Kong business as a secretary. He made his way accidentally into personal financial services thereafter and from there made his way to international securities and commodities.

After his stint on international securities jobs, Uncle Martin spent another 4 years doing cold calls in the US market during American working hours. In the past 4 years, Uncle Martin has been engaged in the business of recruiting and interviewing foreign teachers for China educational institutions. He is also providing one-to-one, small group and corporate training (business English) in Shenzhen City in English. Those who have been to the Grammy Bar English clubs (now at 92 Coffee Club) or been spending time on a Sunday in Lizhi Park English Corner or High-Tech Park English Corner (Friday night) are not unfamiliar with Uncle Martin.

With working experience in London , Tokyo , Nairobi/Mombasa ( Kenya , East Africa), the Philippines and a lot of other countries, Uncle Martin has behind him over 30-years in the use of business English internationally.

Uncle Martin has been retained by Beijing Foreign Language University to assume the role of moderator and a joint talkshow host online with the Beiwaionline forum.   He will be teaching Presentation Skills soon together with Steven Lichen, his loyal follower who made a great success in English study under Uncle Martin's guidance.

9) Simple, Direct English

For the purpose of daily living and business dealings, simple and direct English is much preferred to complex English using a lot of big words and sentence constructions. The latter is helpful if you are pursuing English literature or postgraduate studies. For young working adults who are more worried about being understood by their foreigner counterparties at work, simple and direct English is exactly what they need. And Uncle Martin can surely turn you into one who can use simple, direct English if you are persistent enough.

10) How long will the coaching program be?

It all depends on how much time and energy the student can devote to coaching under Uncle Martin, and your level at the time you start with him.

To be realistic, Uncle Martin is recommending a program lasting at a minimum of 6 months to 2 years.

Uncle Martin will accept payment for a minimum of 3 months in advance after the number of hours and the assignment arrangement have been agreed upon. Rates are also determined after discussing with the student with the program details.

Thank you for your comments, my friend.  You are doing very well in your writing indeed.  The flow of thought in simple English is more important than anything else.

Blogs written by native speakers who muble gumble about their life are the best to learn how to express yourself in non-job related stuff.

I would recommend you to these two blogs:-

    http://www.senseimichael.com

小云, may I ask whether you are a migrant or born locally in the US?   Respond to me in private as this feature is available.  Or email me at uncle.martinyau@gmail.com

    Power to your writing!

It sounds interesting to me for I know I am not a good writer. I graduated from an University in California but after graduation, I seldom get the chance to read more so I found myself not able to write well. During the past few years, I have to write emails to communicate with clients and prospects in Europe and Australia. Since I am writing on behalf of my industry, I can able to express them in writing. However, when I try to express my own opinions or feelings, I discover that I am not good in writing.

In fact, I would like to learn more in English writing but I am currently living in Vancouver and won't be able to meet with Uncle Martin at Shenzhen. Well, I think your tips are very helpful and I will try to read more books in English (or magazine) and hopefully when there is other options for me, I will consider if it works for me.

Anyway, I enjoy reading your blog and hope you can get someone who are interested in improving their English level.
