Only managed to read three out of the four books from the Aug list so I reduced this month's selection to three.
A Spot of Bother by Mark Haddon
Bought it because I like Mark Haddon's previous book "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time" but this one is less interesting for me. George is newly retired, suspects he has cancer, worried about his daughter, and gets into depression, all while trying to get along with his wife Jean, who has an affair with his ex-colleague David; George's daughter Katie is planning to get married to Ray but not sure if it is because she really loves him or only because he is good to her and her toddler son Jacob; George's son Jamie is having problems with his boyfriend Tony and trying to sort out his life...
Hello! ヨッスイ (Hello! Yossie) by 吉澤ひとみ (Hitomi Yoshizawa)
This is a collection of articles by Hitomi Yoshizawa (aka Yossie) from her columns for the Japanese music magazine "CD Data" from 2001 to 2006. She shares with readers her thoughts on various topics - her work, Morning Musume tidbits, holidays, special occasions etc. Fairly easy to read and includes lots of pictures. Can probably finish it quite quickly.
ユウキ欲しい!? (Yuuki Hoshii!? - Do you wish for courage!?) by 天海祐希 (Yuki Amami)
I translated the 'yuuki' in the title as 'courage', but it is probably a pun playing on her name. The book is more difficult to read than expected. So far I've finished the first two chapters - the one on theatre was tough, don't know why the language she uses seems quite hard for me to understand. The one on family is a bit better though. But pretty enlightening...Ganbatte!
