超級偶像: 美夢成真

Week 6 is nearly over...I am very tired...Anyway, blog about something cheerful...


Ever since getting to know the 超級偶像 (Super Idol) show, and quite liking the album from another similar Taiwan TV singing contest "超級星光大道", I decided to buy this album too. Actually it's more of an oversized single...





This is only my second one but I like big vinyl record-like covers!  This LP-size jacket holds not a record but a CD with two tracks - 美夢成真 and a ten-song medley.  It's unfair to make comparisons but generally speaking, I prefer the vocals and song selection in "超級偶像: 美夢成真" to those in "星光同學會 - 超級星光大道X10強紀念合輯".  What a pity then that the ten songs are not featured in their full-length glory and instead only condensed into an 11 min medley.

It also seems rather unfair that not everyone gets to sing a solo song each.  The last song featured everyone on vocals whereas 張芸京, by virtue of winning the contest, got two.  That leaves three of the guys to have to share one song.

I think 張芸京 was out of the contest at one time by forgetting the lyrics of 白月光 so why did they pick this song to include in this album?  Vindication, perhaps.  I quite like her rendition.  The other song she sings is a nice happy tune 靜止 which I'd never heard of before this.  Found out that it has previously been recorded by 楊乃文 and 花儿乐队 but I like this version best.

My favourite performance in this album is actually 江明娟's 女人花.  I think the song suits her voice quality very much and she sings with much feeling.  I remember seeing one of her clips much earlier by chance and didn't like what I heard cos her diction was quite bad, dropping nearly all the 捲舌音.  But her transformation has been quite remarkable...think she has corrected most of the flaws.  And her 領悟力很強, she sang 難得有情人 in a very 'strong' manner, which sounded weird but after a few pointers from the judges, she immediately realized what was wrong and improved greatly.  I think she has the strongest personal style among the ten and she's quite cute in her own way.  I guess I have a soft spot for her kind of voice.

As for the other two girls, I like 王雅婷's powerful opener.  She doesn't sound like the original singer but you could still guess it was A-Mei's song because of the music style.  For 黎卉淇, it was obvious that she was singing in pretty much the same style as Jolin.

Among the guys, 林宗興 manages to make his lowest notes sound really bright, which I thought was quite difficult.  He doesn't handle the higher notes as well though.  I think 黃文星 was 1st runner up.  Somehow they picked a Hokkien song 查某人 for him.  The segments for these two guys are quite short with only two repeats of a chorus and no main verse.  I think the latter's singing sounds a bit over at times...Just compare the way he sang 世界唯一的你 with 張芸京's, no prizes for guessing whose version I like better.

The other guys didn't leave much impression, partly cos the song by 朱肇群 is not the type that I like, and 黃偉豪, 黃宥恩, 廖志良 had to share vocals, though I think one of them has a more recognisable voice (maybe it's 黃偉豪 but not sure).
